Make Your Website Stand Out with Stock Images

Posted on December 30th, 2009 in Blogging | No Comments »

How can you make your website eye-catching?  How can you add pizzazz?  And how can you get your message across without doing any writing?  Include an image on your website! You don’t have to take the photo or even know the photographer.  You don’t need to spend a lot of money, and it doesn’t take a lot of time.  How?  Choose an image on a stock image site online.

Stock images are photographs, illustrations and film footage that are used for personal and commercial use.  There are many stock image companies on the web, some offer millions of images for sale.  In fact, some of the companies archives are so valuable and delicate they are housed in a place called Iron Mountain, in a cave 200 plus feet underground and are refrigerated!

Now you might be thinking, “Hey, if there are millions of images to choose from how am I ever going to find what I’m looking for?”  And then you might bag the whole idea.  But wait!  These online sites have easy to use search tools to help you find that perfect match.  For instance, on some sites you can specify how many people you want in a picture, their sexes, the dates the image was taken like 1935-1941, the location, the photographer, the point of view like aerial or from space, and whether you want the orientation to be horizontal, vertical or panorama.  With all of those specifications, you don’t have to worry about having too many images to choose from, you need to worry about not having enough!

So what kind of images are available that can help you brighten up your website?  Anything from a toothless woman grinning as she comes out the front door of an alcohol detox center, to pictures of plain ol’ products like one ton pick-up trucks and hair wigs.

Including stock images on your website can make it stand out and get noticed.

What Is The Best Mini Notebook Screen Size?

Posted on December 22nd, 2009 in Blogging | No Comments »

While mini notebooks greatest positive is their amazingly small size, along with that comes a few compromises and one of those that the screen resolution on a 9 or 10 inch screen isn’t anywhere as large as it would be on your typical 13 or 15 inch laptop. Not to worry though, we’ll tough on what exactly resolution is and since not all models are created equal, we’ll talk about which mini laptops offer the best resolution for the money.

So what is screen resolution? Well resolution is the number of pixels that can fit into a given size, whether it is a 4 inch screen or a 20 inch screen. The quality of the screen affects how many pixels can be put into the same area. For example you could have two 9 inch laptops and one model would have a 1024×600 screen resolution and the other, nicer model, would have a resolution of 1366×768. A good rule to follow when deciding on which resolution you want, is to get the one with the highest resolution. Why you might ask? Well in the future you might want the higher resolution and you can always set the screen to a smaller resolution if needed. It’s also nice to have the option to set a higher resolution when you hook up your mini notebook computer to a 20 or 24 inch monitor.

So what resolutions are popular with mini laptop computers? Well when the Asus Eee PC first came out in a 7 inch model they were offering a screen size of 800×480. To give you an idea of how small that screen resolution is for a netbook, the resolution on the Apple iPhone is 480×320 on a 3.5 inch screen. As the mini notebook started to advance and the 9 inch models became more popular, a screen size of 1024×600 became the standard. This was great because 36% of people use a screen of 1024 or larger. The only downside to this is the typical standard computer that used a resolution of 1024 had a matching dimension of 768. this meant on a mini notebook you still had a rather small vertical resolution for viewing documents or long web pages.

What mini notebooks offer larger resolution screens? The Sony Vaio W is the first one that comes to mind. It’s a 10.2 inch model with a screen resolution of 1366×768. The second model would be the HP Mini 110 which has a 1366×768 size screen as well, but it’s an added upgrade to the standard Mini 110 model. Don’t just assume that getting a larger netbook means better resolution. There are a lot of 12 in models that aren’t even considered netbooks with a 1280×800 resolution.

Hopefully I’ve helped shed some light on what resolution choices you have for your mini notebook. Remember to pay attention to the details when checking the resolution and also remember that screen size does not equal resolution. A lot of 10 inch models will have much better resolution than their 12 inch counter parts. Be aware though that with higher resolution comes higher cost. Overall I feel like anything larger that 1280×800 is going to be great. My first mini laptop had the 1024×600 and it was just a little to small.

Tips For Success In College

Posted on December 19th, 2009 in Blogging | No Comments »

Decide that you will always attend class no matter what. If you wake up late, get dressed and go to class. You can shower when you get home. If you have car trouble, take the bus. If you are late go anyway. Make it a priority that you will attend class no matter what.

Take notes. Create a note taking strategy. Since you are in class anyway you might as well do something constructive. So pay attention and take notes. Write down everything especially the things you don’t understand. When you get home, rewrite all of your notes, take the time to clarify the things you are unclear of and look up anything you don’t understand.

Not only keep up with your required reading, but stay ahead of the game. You already know more than most students because you have notes on the lecture that you have gone over and completely understand. But read the assigned chapters as well, this will reinforce your knowledge and fill in any gaps. You will also be surprised how easy the reading is when you are not in a race against time.

Can’t sleep,  read a little bit before bed. Use your syllabus and not only stay caught up, but read ahead. Even check out some of the additional information it can only help you be more informed. You can also download etextbooks and bring them on your laptop, netbook, or an ereader, such as the Nook. That means that you have portable text at your fingertips wherever you go.

The last thing to stay on top of is the writing. Many students will procrastinate with their writing until the last minute. They will then end up either pulling an all nighter or panicking and dropping the class after spending half a semester attending it. An easy way to handle the writing is to just start your paper in advance. In fact once you sit down and begin you will find out that it is not as hard as you thought it was.

Not only that but without the added pressure of time constraints it is easier and actually even fun to create something that you can be proud of and get a good grade on. So the main tips for being successful in college are to make class a priority, take notes and rewrite them, stay ahead on your reading, and write your papers early. If you follow these simple tips you will end up with a good grade that seems effortless. In fact it is usually easier to get an A following these guidelines then it is to barely pass with a C.

Easy Weight Loss Options: How To “Cheat” With Your Diet

Posted on December 15th, 2009 in Blogging | No Comments »

Cheating on your diet is not a new thing, of course. But there are ways on how you can cheat and still lose weight at the same time. If you are set on “cheating” for a better, faster and safer weight loss option than a biliopancreatic diversion, here are a couple of tips you might want to try.

1. Add more spices to your meals. Spices are said to have fat burning capabilities — and that may be true on a somewhat limited note. Studies show that spices — capsicum in particular, are known to burn up slightly more calories when introduced in the diet. However, it should be noted that this only works if the person does not prefer to eat extremely spicy food on a regular basis. The real benefit to eating spicy food is that many people tend to eat fewer portions with the hopes of suffering less also from the food’s normal burning intensity. Examples of spices you might want to include sparingly in your diet are: bell pepper (roasted first to release its heat and flavor,) Jalapeño pepper, banana pepper, paprika, chili pepper, bird’s eye chili, etc.

2. Eat only freshly cooked meals. Taking the time to really prepare your meals can make you rein in your ravenous appetite, and this makes you less prone to overeat. At the same time, very few people actually gorge on hot meals, preferring to let the food cool down a bit before eating. You could use this to your advantage. Instead of raiding the fridge or the pantry and stuffing a pre-prepared snack item in your mouth, it might do your figure better if you just take things slowly and cook your own meals and snacks. Make sure though that you keep to the recommended portions only, and that you do not cook a lot. This will help you avoid the temptation of eating more food than you really ought to.

The evolution of computer technology over the past twenty years is remarkable. It seems that every few months another product is released that is designed to make our lives easier, and the recent launch of touch screen laptop computers is no exception. A touch screen laptop is nearly identical to a traditional laptop except that commands are made by touch rather than through a mouse and/or keyboard. Want to enlarge a photo or text being displayed on the screen? A touch screen laptop computer allows you to do this with a simple stretch of the fingers. Although this technology has been around for many years, most recently used by Apple in its line of IPOD’s and phones, the availability of full featured computers that include this technology is a relatively recent phenomenon. Even more recent is the availability of cool pink laptops with touch screens. Thanks to the power of marketing and product development, it is now possible to carry around a shiny new touch screen laptop in the color pink.

There are currently only a handful of pink laptop computers featuring a touch screen, one being a model designed for young children. Produced by VTech, the Touch Tablet Advanced features a detachable touch screen display that allows children to learn through more than 120 separate activities. The activities include lessons in English, math, history, social studies and science. The touch tablet will adjust itself based on your child’s performance and is designed to continually offer more challenging lessons. A CD-ROM is included with the purchase, which provides additional challenges and activities. Reviews for the device are generally positive and cost is reasonable at $99.

With the increasing popularity of pink laptops and other pink electronic devices, there are sure to be other touch screen pink laptops on the horizon. One thing is for certain – technology will continue to expand and conquer new horizons. It’s up to you to stay current and not be left behind.
