There are literally thousands of Word training courses available. Word training can be split into Microsoft Word 2007 training and MS Word 2003 training. Within these 2 categories course levels range from basic word training to advanced word training and a bit of everything in between.
Master documents is a subject that is often covered in advanced Microsoft Word training courses. A master document can be seen as a container that helps organise sections in a long document. Examples of this could be books, manuals or reports. Each chapter of the book or manual is stored in a separate section of the master document. Different users can create sub documents and these su documents can then be combined in a master document. All referencing features of Microsoft word such as a table of content, index and bibliography can also be added to the master document.
A master document can only be created in Word’s outline view. The master document is indicated by changing the style of the master document to heading 1. Sub documents are then named and indicated as such by setting the style of these to heading 2. Remember, this has to be done in outline view!
Once you have created the title of the sub document by setting its style to header 2, a button will appear next to the sub document heading. This button will allow you to insert a sub document into the master document. The sub document can be stored on any drive location that you have access to in a networked environment.
Once the master and sub document structure has been created, manipulating the test in the large document becomes a lot easier as each section can be collapsed and expanded as required.
Whether or not you will benefit from attending a course is something only you can decide.
