Well, the month of December is coming to a close and I am sad to report that I have made only $7.47. That is very very far away from my goal of $100.
So it’s time to recap and learn from our mistakes and our journey. Let’s start by asking ourselves a few questions.
- Where did most of your traffic come from
- What is the ratio to visitors and income earned (just to see)
Right off the bat we could put those two together and realize what went wrong. Just to point out what I did, most of my traffic came from Twitter. I did get a good following through Twitter but I was told that Twitter followers do not convert well through ADsense. I was getting traffic and impressions but no one was clicking. Now I have to ask
-Are Twitter Followers too web savvy? Is that why they don’t click ADsense ads, because most of them have blogs?
That’s a strong two part question with what I’ve been seeing am going to assume that they are too savvy. I have to live with the fact that Twitterers do not click ADsense Ads. Although I have heard that Google searches do (of course).
I will go as far as saying that I did everything I could in one month to boost traffic to my site and try to make that $100. I have learned from my tribulations. I wouldn’t say I learned from mistakes because while trying to challenge myself, I have gained a plethora of new readers, visitors and Twitter followers. I worked hard at achieving that.
Now I know I will have to put way more effort into these areas of my blog to double my income in the month of January
1. I need to build links to my website by linking up to new bloggers and commenting more on other blogs
2. I need to access my keywords and really start spreading around and linking using those keywords
3. Keep using Twitter to make contacts with other bloggers to promote my posts and get my link out there.
Maybe January will be our month. Till next time.
What next?
While trying to build traffic to my ArrestedDevelopmentBlog.com website, I was asking my followers on Twitter what I should do. I got a lot of recommendations saying to use Facebook.com
Now I have a personal Facebook that I use to keep in touch with friends from High School and other personal things and I was curious if I should use that. My advice to you is if you already have a pretty good Facebook Account use it to your advantage. You can sign up for groups in your niche and start your own. And you can act like you have nothing to do with the blog you are trying to promote and just trying to give people good information.
I’ve noticed that Facebook is really tight with who they allow on. If you try to add too many friends or join too many groups, they will find out and try and stop you. The idea of Facebook is to try not to seem like you are trying to market something.
I know this because I started a Facebook account soley for my Arrested Development Blog. I was trying to add a bunch of friends from Arrested Development groups and Facebook was trying to slow me down. I just wanted everyone to join my Arreseted Development group to try and get them to go to my website. What you have to do is engage. Just like any other social media site. But I’m engaging and adding friends so I can engage more. It comes to a point where you have to rely on other people to recommend you and find you.
So is it worth starting a new facebook account – yes. If you don’t mind working at it a little or if you don’t have one at all!
ADsense Challenge Update

What next?
Oh yeah I made some money. Although during the weekend I didn’t spend that much time working on the site. I did add a new Downloads page where I added Arrested Development Wallpaper. I also added some more Adsense Ads, now I have a line of links going across the top of every page. Hopefully this converts well for me. Though out the weekend I have been recieving emails from TweetBeep.com about Arrested Development and have been adding them to my followers. One good non-related Adsense thing that came out of it, I was contacted by a publisher who is promoting a novel written by a former writer and producer on Arrested Development. I recieved a copy of the book and I am going to review it on my site. I am also going to request an interview as well. They also gave me 5 books to give away on my site as a contest. So look out for that.
Here are the results from over the weekend.

What next?
I had a huge increase in readers and I am starting to get excited. I am bringing in the traffic but I am not getting the clicks I want. On friday I am going to try some different ad placements and I’ll let you know how that works out.
Using Facebook to Get Traffic
So to get all this traffic I have been using Twitter. I started a twitter account @thebluths strictly for this website. I post quotes from the show and I also post my blog titles and random links I find about the show. I am slowly getting to use StumbleUpon but it is not as personal as I like. And yesterday I was told by a twitterer to start a facebook profile. So now I have a facebook profile called Matthew Bluth. See it Here
On my Facebook profile I joined a bunch of Arrested Development Groups and even started my own. This is really getting me some good traffic. I suggest trying it. Here are my results from the last two days.

Not bad for the second day of the challege. I made money! Check it out

$1.35 I am pretty proud of that. All of that came from Twitter and Stumbleupon. I have yet to get into Google’s index for my site yet. But today I have added a bunch more followers to my Twitter account and I started commenting on other blog posts about Arrested Development and was sure to include my link. I did a lot of link building and Tweeting today. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.
Here are my stats from yesterday:
