Ultrabooks are now more wanted than ever: they are thin, light, portable and very powerful, but at the same time a little pricey to be honest. One such ultrabook is the LenovoIdeaPad U300 which we will review today and present you the main specs as well as an explanation of what they mean compared to other products on the market.
The IdeaPad U300s from Lenovo has a pretty simple exterior and comes in two color options: Clementine orange and simple gray. From the moment you pick it up you’ll notice actually how light and thin this ultrabook is, measuring only 0.59 inches (or 14.9 mm) at its thickest point and weighing in at a good 2.9lbs (1.34kg).
When opening the Lenovo IdeaPad U300s you’ll notice a 13.3 inch screen with a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels which even if glossy manages to cope well with direct sunlight. The touchpad and keyboard of the U300s also managed to positively impress me because the keys are well-spaced and easy to press, much better than the ones found on the Acer Aspire S3 for instance. Nevertheless, the Enter, Caps Lock, Tab and Shift keys are undersized and could cause you to miss them if you are not used to the keyboard.
Performance-wise, the Lenovo IdeaPad U300s reviewed here comes with either a Intel Core i5 1.6GHz CPU or an Intel Core i7 1.7GHz CPU with 4GB of RAM and Intel HD 3000 graphics. If you would like to use the laptop only for a document editing and multimedia, then go for the i5 version. On the other hand, if you would like to do some casual gaming from time to time, then the i7 is the one for you.
Storage space on the IdeaPad U300s is pretty hefty, ranging from a 128GB SSD on the Intel i5 version of this ultrabook to a bigger 256GB one on the Intel Core i7 U300s. It’s without point to mention that the SSD drive will give you much better access times and an amazing 10 second cold boot time.
All in all, the IdeaPad U300s is a good laptop for dynamic people who would like to have an ultrabook everywhere with them. With a price tag between $1,199 and $1,499, it’s not that chap but compensates with a good combination of components.
