The Popular LIDAR 3D Laser Scanner

Posted on September 24th, 2010 in Blogging | No Comments »

One of the popular technologies used to make a 3D laser scanner is the LIDAR technology. The full meaning of LIDAR is Light Detection and Ranging. LIDAR technology is applied in making laser scanners for the following fields: Geology, forestry, archaeology, seismology, and atmospheric physics among other fields.

A LIDAR 3D laser scanner can be used for scanning rock formations, buildings, stationery objects among other objects. One of the popular LIDAR scanners is the time of flight laser scanner. This scanner collects information about the properties of an object by sending a stream of laser light to the object. The time of flight laser scanner is ideal for scanning objects in distant places.

The LIDAR 3D laser scanner is also nowadays used by police officers to detect the speed of vehicles. The hand held camera gun is the device that can determine the speed of a particular vehicle in a stream of traffic. This camera gun has an in built LIDAR 3D scanner that is responsible for its awesome functioning. With the LIDAR hand held camera gun, it is becoming easy for traffic police to carry out traffic speed enforcement.

The academic world also uses the LIDAR 3D laser scanner. In the academic world, this scanner is used for studying chemical and physical processes that shape landscapes among other studies. LIDAR laser scanners are also used to study topographical features such as river channel banks, river surface and land surface elevation. Research- grade LIDAR data archived by organizations such as National Science Foundation helps researchers in carrying out various types of scientific research.

LIDAR laser scanners are preferred for use in many industries because they are the most accurate and precise scanners in the world. A LIDAR scanner also has unprecedented versatility; therefore, it will be easily used for a wide range of applications. Another good reason to use a LIDAR scanner is their easy to use features.

Using a LIDAR 3D laser scanner has many awesome benefits. These benefits include highly accurate and precise results. Because of the accuracy and precision of these scanners, they are used by a wide range of industries from archaeology to atmospheric physics industries.

Why You May Need a Webcam for Laptop Computers

Posted on August 8th, 2010 in Blogging | No Comments »

“I already have a laptop.  It serves all my everyday purposes and it’s convenient.  So why is it so important I have a webcam for my laptop as well?”

This may have been said several times and in many other ways before, but yes, it is truly important that one have a webcam built in or set up on their laptop.  More often than not people associate webcams for laptops with online chatting, online dating and other stereotypical uses, but for the more business-minded sort, there are a lot of other benefits as well.  And yes, there’s more to face-to-face conversation online than just chatting and dating, although it could help that cause as well.

Bosses, for instance, may find having a webcam for laptop to be very useful in monitoring their employees at work.  While most employees are full-grown, supposedly mature adults, most employees also believe in the saying “when the cat is away, the mouse will play”.  There will be none of this if a webcam is used as a security tool for bosses.  Company security can also use it for monitoring company-based thefts, which are unfortunately quite common these days.

And on the personal side, wouldn’t you agree that it’s much better to chat with someone if you can actually see him or her?  Superficial as it may seem, how many of you have been bummed out after that so-called looker you met on the Internet turned out to be the exact opposite?  Having a webcam for laptop eliminates such risks – well, almost.  And it makes conversations with family or other loved ones more intimate when you’re thousands of miles away.

Maybe this article won’t persuade you immediately to get a webcam installed or to purchase a laptop with webcam included, but hopefully it will put to rest some of the misconceptions on webcam usage on the laptop.

Electronic Books for the Student

Posted on February 2nd, 2010 in Blogging | No Comments »

I do not consider myself an early adopter of technology but I do recognize change when it is upon us and I am pretty certain that e-readers are here to stay. Simply because of the long term economical viability of a electronic books it is hard to see them going away anytime soon.

When considering children and textbooks or worse yet, college students and the numerous books that they are forced to buy, e-readers start to look pretty attractive. They are made to be durable and long lasting, they can hold thousands of books, numerous other types of files can be viewed, you can take notes, and you can highlight important text.

The quintessential book will never leave us, but they will start to be much fewer and far between. As much as I love books I am ok with this. The many benefits to having an electronic book greatly outweigh the positive of being able to smell and hold a paper book.

For the average student being able to carry numerous books in one small contraption and having the ability to reference them, search them, edit them, and view, notes and important points is very important. College textbooks for a single semester can cost upwards of $500 and they are basically worthless shortly thereafter. If you are able to spend a quarter of that and have the books be much more accessible for the rest of your life, I think that is worth it.

One more point I would like to bring up is the environmental impact of the publishing industry. As you recall paper is made from trees, less paper books fewer trees get cut down. Less toxic dye is used to print the pages and paper mills emit less toxic pollution producing books that end up attracting roaches in someones house sooner or later.

Do your child a favor and introduce them to electronic books sooner than later and allow them to fully appreciate and get the most out of the written word.
