I read these blogs everyday and they help me in making my decisions and giving me new ideas as to what I should do with my own blog and websites.

Problogger

This is a blog run by Darren Rowse and I consider him the authority of bloggers around the world. He is a full time blogger that writes about how to blog and how to drive traffic to your blog and more.

CopyBlogger

Brian Clark is a blogger who writes about writing. I have been reading this blog for about a year and before that anytime I would search Google on how to write a blog post, Copyblogger would come up.

Seth’s Blog

If you think Online Marketing, you must know Seth Godin. He has written books and has one of the most popular blogs about internet marketing. This blog is a must read, I highly recommend it.

Smashing Magazine

This is a great blog that is dedicated to website design and development. They will often post freebies like, fonts, wordpress themes and icons. Infact I got the wordpress theme I used to make this site from Smashing Magazine. They have only been around for about two years but are in the top 100 blogs on Technorati.

SEO Book

The SEO Master himself Aaron Wall runs this blog. The great thing about this blog is that it is updated everyday with about 3 long posts which is a lot of content. He also has plenty of SEO tools on his site as well as free informative videos.

This is a blog that is run by Hostgater which provides hosting but their blog is awesome. It’s updated about twice a day will quick relevant content. It’s fast becoming my new favorite blog.

Website Magazine

There is a free magazine I get in the mail every month that is full of rich content. Well this is blog of the website of the magazine I receive. So basically its a blog about websites in general and it’s mostly breaking news about internet sites and for web designers and developers.

HubSpot Inbound Marketing Blog

Hubspot is a company that specializing in providing internet marketing. They also have a fantastic blog about inbound marketing. You should also use thier Website Grader Tool, which I use to try and make my websites better. Oh and I almost forgot, they a great video podcast too you should check out.

This dude has been around for a while now. He is an internet celeb. Jeremy Shoemaker has been helping bloggers and webmaster with internet marketing for years. He has that famous picture where he holds that Adsense check up. See below

Knowtebook

I’m not really sure how I feel about this one yet. Not to say it isn’t a good site but I haven’t been reading it too often. It’s fairly new to me, but check it out anyway and let me know what you think.

Bonus Blog – Gary Vaynerchuk

This dude is nuts but you gotta love him. I have always said, if you have ever seen “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” he sounds just like Charlie. He is an internet celeb with lots of funny and smart videos about making money online. This blog is really well designed. I suggest you check it out just for some inspariation if not anything else.

How I Built This Blog – Part 1

Posted on November 16th, 2008 in Blogging | 3 Comments »

If you are curious to know how I built this blog I will tell you. I bought my hosting through startlogic.com, a web hosting company. After much searching they were the company where I thought you could get the most bang for your buck. I was using ipower.com at first but startlogic.com was cheaper and it was built on the same platform. I pay about $60 a year for my plan and it comes with a domain name. The really good thing about this hosting plan is it comes with a Word Press plugin. So basically you don’t have to install Word Press on your hosting account, it does it for you automatically. Which is great because if your not familiar with databases then I wouldn’t mess with it.

Using Word Press

Once I got that set up I just installed word press in my main directory so all you have to do is type in www.theovernightsite.com and it takes you right to this blog. When you first install wordpress, your webpage will look like this:

In wordpress I was able to change the template of what the site would look like. Another great thing about wordpress is that there is thousands of free templates available on the web you can find. I started by using a template by WebRevolutionary. I found it at SmashingMagazine.com which is a great blog for web developers and web designers. I went to this blog post (100 Excellent Free Wordpress Themes) and I downloaded a template called codeblue. Here is what it looked like originally:

From there I was able to manipulate it to look the way the site does now which isn’t so different from the orginal. A lot of my blog is based of the ideas of Darren Rowse of Problogger.net. His blog was the first blog I ever subscribed to and it is so easy to navigate and read that I thought it would be a perfect setup for me. So from here I just changed the logo at the top right corner using photoshop.

The Mission Statement

Posted on November 15th, 2008 in Blogging | 2 Comments »

My name is Matthew “Gio” Giovanisci and my goal is to make this blog into a successful website and chronicle my progress as I go. This is the very first post to this nearly finished website and the official launch!

Mission Statement

At TheOvernightSite.com I (Matthew “GIo” Giovanisci) will post a new article every single day chronicling my progress with trying to build 3 successful websites from scratch including SwimUniversity.com, PoolPuppy.com, and this site TheOvernightSite.com. I have no help or pre-existing website to help boost my traffic. Not only will I be chronicling my possible success with these websites, but in the process I will be sharing every piece of information I come across that I think would be useful for my readers also trying to build successful websites.

I will provide videos, how-articles, photos, helpful tools and links to great resources (the same ones I will use for my website). I promise that with this blog I will be honest in all my techniques and success. I am pretty optimistic that this experiment will work for me as it will for my readers. I encourage fellow web designers, web developers and bloggers to contribute to this blog with any helpful information.

Feel free to visit our contact section to send me questions or suggestions of blog posts you would like to see. I will do my best in answering all of your questions. I pretty much do this all day, so I would have no reason not to (unless there were too many questions, which in that case I would consider it success).

So take some time and visit all of the websites that we will be following so you can have a better understanding of what we are dealing with. Also I read a ton of blogs everyday and if I find any useful articles I’ll be sure to post them here so you can share in the same information that I get.

Thank you readers, I hope to hear from you all very soon!
